Not to be confused with a hot oil treatment or an oil pre-poo, an oil rinse is done after shampooing or co-washing but before conditioning. This is so that the conditioner removes any excess oil on the surface of the hair. Here's how to do an oil rinse:
- Shampoo or co-wash your hair and rinse.
- Saturate your hair with a natural oil of your choice.
- Let it sit on your hair for anywhere from five minutes to an hour.
- Rinse well with warm water.
- Follow with conditioner (deep or light condition). Rinse.
- Proceed as usual.
