Tea/Coffee Rinses

Black tea or coffee rinses are used to reduce shedding. The caffeine in tea and coffee counteracts the DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in your scalp. DHT causes shedding, hair loss and male pattern baldness (in men). Decaffeinated coffee or tea (e.g. rooibos) will not work.

Tea or coffee rinses are done after shampooing but prior to conditioning:

  1. Brew some tea by boiling water, placing a tea bag or coffee granules in the water, and taking it off the heat. Allow to steep and cool. The tea/coffee should be lukewarm or room temperature.
  2. After shampooing and rinsing out the shampoo, pour the tea/coffee over you hair making sure that it runs over your scalp.
  3. Let the tea/coffee sit for 20 minutes.
  4. Apply conditioner to your hair and rinse or deep condition.
  5. Proceed as normal.
